2022 Manning Award Recipients

Pinkston’s Forge Relocation & Restoration Project, re-established as Brigus Blacksmith to give locals and tourists a genuine look into the history of forging in the Brigus community. The on-site Blacksmith crafts souvenirs which are sought after for their cultural and traditional value.

Woody Point Heritage Theatre, purchased and reclaimed by Charlie Payne in 1997 to provide a vibrant performance venue for the community. Friends of Writers at Woody Point helped the theatre gain national recognition through their annual event known as the Writers at Woody Point festival — a coming together of writers, musicians, and storytellers.

Flatrock Museum, opened in 1988 and developed by 10 dedicated volunteers to curate and present artifacts of the religion, fishing industry, farming industry, and everyday life of Flatrock residents. Photographs, furniture, tools, clothing, and more were donated by locals to display the history and heritage of the community.

Bygone Days of Witless Bay, an 18-year project spearheaded by the Heritage Committee of Witless Bay. Interviews from 43 elders within the community were taped and transcribed by Bonnie Johnstone and Maureen Walsh, providing over 100 hours of stories, details, and evidence of everyday life.

Outstanding Heritage Supporter: Dr. Ted Rowe; author, publisher, fundraiser, volunteer, musician, storyteller, and key founder of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland & Labrador. Dr. Ted Rowe’s contributions to our province’s history and heritage are unmatched, possessing extensive knowledge and involvement in all things pertaining to our culture.
