Come and witness a demonstration of First World War tactics! Pyrotechnic artillery detonations will churn the soil, as machine guns and rifles chatter amid the rising smoke. In this recreation of a historical training exercise, you will see how soldiers were taught to use their minds, bodies, and equipment in the face of terror and modern warfare. Learn how the losses of the Battle of the Somme eventually led to new approaches to fighting on the modern battlefield that would help move the war out of the stalemate of the trenches and back into a war of movement.
"After Beaumont-Hamel: Remaking the Newfoundland Regiment" is a joint event of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Parks Canada Eastern Newfoundland Field Unit.
