Grand Reopening: Signal Hill Heritage Shop in Cabot Tower

The Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HSA) and Parks Canada are pleased to announce the grand re-opening of the HSA’s Signal Hill Heritage Shop on Saturday, August 1st. Located on the first floor of Cabot Tower, the Heritage Shop’s seasonal opening in April was delayed while essential repairs were completed on the tower’s roof. Operations will resume from 8:30am to 9:00pm daily until Labour Day, at which time fall hours will go into effect until the tower closes mid-November.

Celebrations on Saturday at the Heritage Shop will include giveaways, door prizes and a chocolate sampling. Tourists and locals alike are invited to spend the day on Signal Hill, enjoying the activities at Cabot Tower, walking the beautiful hiking trails, exploring the Visitor Centre, viewing a Signal Hill Tattoo performance and much more.

At this time, the second and third floor of the tower, along with the observation deck, will remain closed to complete repairs. The HSA would like to thank Parks Canada for their work in preserving this historic structure and the timely completion of repairs to the first floor.

The Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HSA) has operated a gift shop inside of Cabot Tower since 1981, providing tourists and residents with souvenirs, collectibles, local art, crafts, books and more.  The Signal Hill Heritage Shop is just one of nine Heritage Shops operated across the province by the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HSA). The HSA is a non-profit committed to the presentation of Newfoundland and Labrador’s unique culture and heritage. Some of the organization’s projects include: the Manning Awards, the Heritage Fairs, and the Dr. Paul O’Neill Scholarship.

Through a close partner with Parks Canada, HSA has made lasting contributions to our province’s National Historic Sites. HSA's contributions to the Signal Hill National Historic Site of Canada include: $300,000 towards the exhibits inside the visitor’s centre, $270,000 towards the refurbishment of the interior of Cabot Tower, $350,000 towards the reconstruction of the Queens Battery barracks and annual funding of $22,000 towards the Signal Hill Tattoo and $43,000 towards their uniforms.
