2015 Bartlett Lecture

The 2015 edition of the Bartlett Lecure series was held in Brigus on September 19th, 2015. The bi-annual lecture is part of the HSA's commitment to sharing the story of Hawthorne Cottage and that of Captain Bob Bartlett. Each lecture explores a different aspect of Newfoundland history and northern exploration.

This year's lecturer was renowned NL architect Philip Pratt, and his talk was entitled "Settled by the Sea":

"an informal, sometimes lighthearted, series of personal observations about old and new Newfoundland and Labrador architecture. More than just old salt boxes or shiny new buildings, it looks at the process that delivers our humblest, grandest, ugliest, and most delightful structures. It is a way of looking at and thinking about how they fit, or don't, into our landscape. The lecture also considers newer trends in commercial and domestic buildings, and contemplates the place of a few 'landmark' buildings such as The Rooms, and the Fogo Island Inn.

A pre-lecture dinner was held at Brigus Recreational Centre. The delicious buffet was catered by Skipper Ben's.
