Remembering Ted Harrison

The Historic Sites Association of NL was sadden to hear of the passing of visionary Canadian artist Ted Harrison. Harrison partnered with the Association on The Canadian Art Print Portfolio; a celebration of our National Parks and Historic Sites. His piece depicted Kluane National Park in the vivid colors and bold shapes for which he was famous. His work brought joy to many Canadians and is a lasting testament to the awe inspiring beauty of Canada’s northern places.

The Canadian Art Print Portfolio was commissioned by the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1985 to mark the centenary of Parks Canada. 12 prolific artists from across the country contributed prints inspired by a Canadian Park or Historic Site. The project launched in October 1985 at Rideau Hall, with the first recipient being then Governor General Madame Jeanne Sauvé. The profits from this legacy project were placed in a trust fund to support the Signal Hill Tattoo, a living history program at Signal Hill National Historic Site.
