Downtown Infrastructure Upgrade Will Not Impact Heritage Shop Customers
The Heritage Shop of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to inform the public that customer access to their 309 Water Street retail location will not be impacted by the City of St. John’s Downtown Infrastructure Upgrade. The Heritage Shop is located east of Phase 1 upgrades, slated in begin April, and will not be within the 2018 construction zone. The City has also committed to maintaining a minimum of one lane of traffic on Water Street at all times, and pedestrian access will not be restricted.
The first phase of upgrades will start in April 2018, West of the Heritage Shop.
Downtown St. John’s
Infrastructure Upgrade:
The City of St. John’s is beginning a five-year project to upgrade water and sewer infrastructure on Water Street in downtown St. John’s. Though excavation work is expected to take place during the project, a large portion of the upgrade will be conducted using trenchless technology, which will minimize construction time and impact on local businesses and consumers. The first phase of the project is slated to begin in April 2018 and will replace the infrastructure between Waldegrave Street and Bishop’s Cove. First phase construction is expected to be completed by June 2018.
Water Street Heritage Shop:
One of the nine Heritage Shops located across the province, the 309 Water Street location is an important contributor to the social enterprise of the non-profit Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. Featuring the work of over 100 local craftspeople and suppliers, the Water Street Heritage Shop is one of the largest cultural craft retail locations in the province. The second floor of this Heritage Shop features the Water Street Gallery, which provides a venue for both emerging and established artists to showcase their work and provides visitors with the opportunity to view Newfoundland & Labrador history and culture through the eyes of our talented local artist.
